I didn’t connect with the novel even though I find the subject matter very interesting Partition and its aftermath. Unfortunately that love never had the opportunity to develop and so there is an overwhelming sense of longing throughout the majority of this book.

Such a writer is Intizar Hussain; such a novel is Basti. Another intriguing question which has been raised is whether Zakir is an autobiographical character.
